Telomere Length Variation in the Skin Tissues

As telomeres shorten, the regenerative capacity of skin cells declines, leading to slower wound healing and reduced resilience to environmental stressors. This can manifest as wrinkles, thinning of the skin, and decreased elasticity associated with aging. Additionally, shortened telomeres in skin cells have been linked to various age-related skin disorders, such as atrophic skin, and an increased risk of skin cancers.

Sample Requirements

We accept skin samples from clients and can process them for analysis. The provided skin tissue samples would need to be of high integrity and purity, free from contaminants or degradation that could compromise the accuracy of the telomere length measurements.

  • Process skin tissue samples. Digest overnight at 4°C with collagenase to separate epidermis and dermis, then store at -80°C.
  • Prepare DNA samples. If requested, each sample needs to be processed for genomic DNA preparation, either with nucleic acid extraction kits or phenol/chloroform/isopentyl alcohol, etc. The degradation of DNA is checked by gel electrophoresis.
  • Samples delivery. Samples must be collected immediately and sent to us after collection according to shipping conditions.

We offer a range of methods for telomere length detection in skin tissues, such as terminal restriction fragment (TRF), quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques.
